Aging contentedly is not easily done in the material world we live in. The pressure is on to have the latest and the newest and the shiniest. However, sometimes our resouces will not allow it.
Now and then it's good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy.....
It is how we respond to the pressures of life that determine our contentment level. Most of us really do have enough. Why not take the time and really enjoy that latest gadget you had to have before rushing out to buy it's replacement. Most of the stuff we own cannot be that far out of date that it is useless. And, how much stuff do we have that we really don't know how to fully use. I have a outdated cell phone ($39.00). I still don't know how to punch in phone numbers, speed dial etc. So, what good will a new phone do me. I probably won't take the time to learn how to use it fully either.
So what has all of this to do with contented aging? Well one sure way to age longer and happier is to practice contentment. I mean am I going to have a stroke over not getting the newest gadget that I can't afford? Am i going to develop high blood pressure over my 3 year old car not having GPS onboard?
These are ridiculous I know. But, we do put ourselves under undo pressure trying to keep up.
Starting in 2010 take some time and enjoy yourself, family, friends. Read a good book. Get a good cup of coffee. I mean do you really need someone talking to you every waking hour (TV etc). There are probably parks close to where you live. Get out doors.
It's not doing what you like, but lliking what you do, that is the secret of happiness.....
Until the next time, Larry
